Screech Owls vs. Squirrels: Part II

Square squiirel
I know what you are thinking: How much can be written about dealing squirrels trying to take over Screech Owl Boxes?

The answer, if you have had to deal with the problem, is: Not nearly enough.
I came across this informative post about the problem by experienced owler Chris W. Johnson. In it, he wonders who would get the better of an owl-squirrel encounter, and wishes he had seen one.
Last year, I saw just such an encounter. I was in my living room when a squirrel climbed into the owl box — with Ace the Screech Owl inside.

There was quite a lot of ruckus, followed by the squirrel high-tailing it out of the box. A piece of fur clung to the opening.

The victory was short-lived. Ace did not come back the next morning — and did not return for a month.

Fortunately, the squirrel did not return either, though I saw him at the feeder –he was the one with the chunk of fur missing from his forehead.  Link to last year's post on this here.

Finally, I came across this nugget — apparently screech owls can take over squirrel boxes as well.
