State Line Lookout Saturday
Since State Line Hawk Lookout is often unmanned, we don't get many counts from there that I know of.
Scott Haber filed this report on Jersey Birds yesterday and graciously allowed me to pass it along:
There were many raptors on the move at State Line Lookout in Alpine, on this beautiful, cool morning. In a brief 1.5 hour hawkwatch from 9:45-11:15AM, I tallied the following (a group from Bergen County Audubon was present as well) :
Turkey Vulture – 8
Osprey – 5
Bald Eagle – 3
Sharp-shinned Hawk – 11
Cooper's Hawk – 3
Broad-winged Hawk – 107
Red-tailed Hawk – 4
American Kestrel – 5
Peregrine Falcon – 1
The Ospreys, Eagles, Red-tails, and Peregrine were all non-migrant local
residents. Also around were two very vocal Common Ravens that were
continuously harassing the vultures.
Songbird migrants included several American Redstarts and Red-eyed Vireos, singles of Chestnut-sided Warbler, Northern Parula, Bay-breasted Warbler,Magnolia Warbler and Palm Warbler, and multiple flocks of Cedar Waxwings.
