Click "Continue reading …" below for a clue that some might find a tad gross, and the answer to the mystery.

What went on in the three photos?

For the past couple of years, Seymour Drakes has been checking the roofs of Muskrat lodges for strange substances. Each year, history has repeated.

The first clue is  Red Fox tracks on Lake Appert, leading to …

The Muskrat Lodge in the second clue.

Above is what Seymour believes to be fox scat on the lodge.

He has also found owl pellets and raccoon scat on Muskrat Lodges.

Sy wonders if perhaps the mammals are marking territory, or something to that effect.

The first shot is of Red Fox

OK, was the fox looking for Muskrat dinner??

  • …or maybe the lodge is a good lookout post and a place out of the snow to do one’s business or cough up a pellet or two. Or maybe that’s their way to insult a big ugly rodent.
