Fell House News, Part Two
Founding Father John Fell, whose house still hands across the street from the Celery Farm (thanks to the efforts of some dedicated local residents), is one of the unheralded heroes of early America.
I
wrote a chapter about Fell for the book "Revolutionary Bergen County: The Road to Independence,"
and I'll be participating in a roundtable discussion of the book on
Sunday in Rutherford. Link is here (just scroll down).
The free event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at the
Rutherford Public Library, and features such key contributors to the book as former Bergen County Executive William "Pat" Schuber (who will talk about the
leadership skills of George Washington), Rutherford Historian William Neumann (who will talk about Robert Erskine, the Scottish-born inventor and map-maker who played a pivotal role in the War for Independence."

The
192-page book, published by the History Press and edited by Barbara Z. Marchant, features a foreword by
renowned historian Barnet Schecter, author of “The Battle for New York.”
As
Schecter
writes in the foreword, “These richly detailed essays bring
Revolutionary Bergen County to life, revealing the upheaval and
suffering endured by individuals caught between opposing armies and torn
by conflicting allegiances to family, church, community and country.”
The Rutherford Public Library is located at 150 Park Avenue. Phone number is (201) 939-8600.
