My ‘Bird Watcher’ Column This Week
This week "The Bird Watcher," my column in The Record and Herald News, is all about Baltimore Orioles, including a great place to see them in Bergen County.
The link is here.
I see by one report that one has already been seen in the area, on Van Buskirk Island in Oradell, and I am figuring these beautiful birds will be arriving elsewhere in the region, including the Celery Farm any day now. (The shot at right was taken along Disposal Road by DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst); the photo is courtesy of the N.J. Meadowlands Commission.
In years past, I have seen them just south of the Warden's Watch, including my backyard, and along Warbler Alley (the southeastern part of the path around the CF).
I am putting out grape jelly and oranges this year as an experiment. I'll post the results here.

The bird is also attracted by the oranges

Love the article! I always forget what day it will appear–and then I am surprised when I get to The Better Living Section and it pops up on my way to the comics and crossword. It’s always a nice surprise–and it’s never “whitewash.”

My Oriole always returns when the Apple blossoms
appear next door to me. They drink the nectar!
