Green-cheeked Conure Found at Celery Farm

IMG_0131

Barbara Dilger found this stray Green-cheeked Conure this evening at the Celery Farm. If you know of anyone who is missing a pet bird, please let me know.

It is very tame — as you can see, it will eat out of a person's hand. It also has a band on its right leg, which I am told means that it is engaged. ;- )

In the meantime, if you have a bird cage you could lend me, it would be much appreciated…

   More on Green-cheeked Conures here.

Thanks, Barbara and Stiles, for the rescue!

looks like a green-cheeked conure/parakeet (apparently they are known by both names?) you might already have some/all of the following info, but just in case… 🙂
in addition to the usual calling the local police and nearby shelters, there are some other resources that may be useful.
paterson bird store (i believe it’s technically in totowa…) usually has some lost and found fliers hanging in their store. it might be worth giving them a call if no owner turns up. http://www.patersonbird.com/
might be worth posting something here in “found”: http://www.birdhotline.com/ i checked the “lost” section and didn’t see a likely match. i also didn’t see a match on petfinder or craigslist. or here: http://www.foundandlostpets.com/
more and more people are getting their birds microchipped these days, so a vet or shelter may be helpful to scan it.
there’s a possibility someone at this yahoo group may be able to help trace the leg band: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/LegBandNumbers/
although i can’t personally vouch for the organization (i’ve never personally visited or had dealings with them), if you do not have luck locating this bird’s owner, there is an exotic bird rescue organization that recently moved to wantage. http://www.exoticbirdsrefuge.org/moved….html
there is another organization that i understand has a good reputation, which used to be solely in central jersey. apparently they operate partially in north carolina as well now, but they may still have some resources here in jersey. http://www.wingsofhope-nj.com/
good luck! hopefully the owner will turn up and there will be a reunion.

  • Jim,
It looks like a green cheeked conure, from what I can see on google images.

That is a conure, not a parakeet.
Someone is missing a valuable bird.
    Good Luck!
