New Celery Farm Butterfly!

IMG_6972

Saw this very small butterfly at the Celery Farm on Sunday afternoon in the wildflower meadow near the entrance to Green Way.

It is a Common Checkered Skipper, though apparently not so common at the Celery Farm. Not only is it tiny, but it appears to be a darkish blue when in flight — so I was surprised a bit when I downloaded the image.

This skipper is a new species for the North American Butterfly Association checklist for the site. (Thanks for your help, Deedee!)

  Checklist is here.

More on the Common Checkered Skipper is here.

For those looking for the answer to Monday's mystery, the dragonfly is an Eastern Amberwing.
