My Top 10 Birds, 2011 Belize Trip

IMG_7881-1
Had a great trip to Belize earlier this month with the highly touted Lillian (and Stiles) Thomas Tours, and thought I'd share some pix.

Rob Fanning asked everyone on the tour to submit their Top 10 birds lists. Mine follow here (choices based in large part on images I had handy on my overloaded hard drive).

I should have included the Ocellated Turkey and a bunch of others but that's the way the mop flops sometimes.

(Click "Continue reading…" if need be.)

But My No. 1 Bird on the trip was the Masked Tityra (for his looks and distinctive call).

  • Belize is a beautiful place. I’ve never been but I hope to visit someday. Those are some great photos you’ve got there. I personally like #4, the pale billed woodpecker. The spiked red hair on it’s head reminds of ancient Roman soldiers. The soldiers would wear helmets with a red crest on the top, just like the bird.
