My Warwick Ghost Story Performed Oct. 25
Last night, I learned that the Black Dirt Storytelling Guild will be performing my ghost story "Halley's Lantern" next Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the new Warwick (N.Y.) Library, as part of the "Weird Warwick: Historic Ghost Stories" program.
Madelyn Folino, the founder of the guild, will be performing the story. The program starts at 6:30 p.m. and will end about 7:45.
Before I got hooked on birds, I lived at the foot of Mount Peter and wrote fiction, including a ghost story called "Halley's Lantern," about a deaf, star-crossed young daughter of a moonshiner during prohibition.
The story was set on Mount Peter. It was published in the late 1980s in The Middletown Record. It has since been republished at least twice — who doesn't love a ghost story?
The new library is on McFarland Drive in Warwick, which is a side street off of Forester Ave., across from Park Ave. School tennis courts.
As of last night, 40 of the 50 slots for the program were taken. More information is here.
A bit of background: Before I moved to Allendale more than a decade ago, I lived in Warwick, N.Y., at the base of Mount Peter.
I guess the ghost angle gives new meaning to the "Beyond" part of "The Celery Farm and Beyond" blog.
