Dead Mink in the Celery Farm
Sorry to report news of a dead mink in the Celery Farm. Judy MacLellan reported it and showed me where to find it this a.m. — by the Allendale Brook north of the Pirie Mayhood Tower. (Thanks, Judy.)
No sign of trauma.
So sad to see. For me, mink are the wildest animal we have in the Celery Farm and always a wonder to watch.
I retrieved the mink and have notified my contact at the state DEP.
Lisa Safier previously reported a dead mink by the path on the west side of the Celery Farm in November 2021.
Judy found the dead mink found approximately 100 yards south of where the dead Red-shouldered Hawk was found last week. A dead Cooper's Hawk was found in that same vicinity in February 2021.

Hi Jim, Your post motivated me to read about minks on the internet. I wondered if it was a death by natural causes. One site said the average lifespan for minks was 8 years and another site said 1 – 3 years. An interesting fact I didn’t know was that minks molt twice a year, April and August/September.
