Juvie Green Heron!

Mike Flom took this photo of a young Green Heron at the Celery Farm earlier this week.

He says that he and his twin boys were walking around the refuge when one of them "pointed out something moving overhead in the trees and said 'It's big.'

"I looked up, expecting to find a Red-winged Blackbird or something else common. Much to my surprise, I was able to snap a series of close-up photos of this elusive 10-inch-tall fellow.

"Too young to nest, the heron appeared to be looking for food – but about 8 feet off the ground in a tree. Tree-dwelling prey, or a flying fish perhaps?"
