"Mid-Atlantic Birds: Backyard Guide," by Bird Watcher's Digest editor Bill Thompson III, highlights the 55 birds that folks in New Jersey and five other states are apt to see in their yards, and it offers lots of helpful common-sense advice not only for beginners but for casual bird-watchers who want to up their game — such as how to tell apart house finches and their soon-arriving cousins, purple finches.”
