I have many great memories of the Celery Farm, and most of them involve Stiles Thomas.
Stiles led one of the first bird walks I participated in when I was a beginning birder.
I was very disappointed when I wasn't able to see a Yellow-rumped Warbler that Stiles was pointing out.
Stiles reassured me that I would see so many butter-butts that I would get sick of them. Well, I did see many butter-butts over the years, but never got sick of them!!
Stiles monitored the Celery Farm Ring-necked Pheasants. Once when he introduced new hen pheasants, he named one "Carol" for me.
I asked him a few weeks later how Carol was doing, he said in his deadpan manner, "She died."
