Work Has Begun on Mayhood Extension
Marsh Warden Mike Limatola and a work crew of eight volunteers started to build an addition to the Pirie Platform today.
The addition, called the Mayhood Extension in honor of the late Charlie Mayhood, a true friend of Fyke and the Celery Farm, will almost double the size of the observation deck.
A birding column I wrote about Charlie for The Record is here.
Many hands made lighter work this morning. John Pastore also pitched in but was not available for the photo op, and Walter Johnson and Ron Filomeno seemed to hang in the back ground when the camera came out.
A big thank you to the volunteers, and to everyone who contributed to the fund to build the extension.
More pix follow.
Jim Kuehlke and Doug Morel hauling lumber.
Herb Gardener and Stiles Thomas pulling wagon filled with cement bags. No, they are not holding hands.
