Update on the Ridgefield Park Eagle Nest

Don Torino, a friend of this blog, has posted his latest column for wildnewjersey.tv — about the continuing threat to the Bald Eagle nest in Ridgefield Park.

Here's a sample:

Cheers and sighs of relief could be heard recently from everyone that love, care and worked tirelessly to protect our nesting Bald Eagle pair on the Overpeck in Ridgefield Park.

The good news came when a long awaited report was released from U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service that said SkyMark Development Corp. of Paramus — the billion-dollar developer that plans a super-sized project on the property — will not be allowed to remove or encroach on this nest or destroy the surrounding buffer, which has been documented as a critical winter roost for as many as a dozen Bald Eagles.

The nest has produced six young eagles in the last five years.

But for Alice & Al, as these amazing birds are now known, the reprieve may be short-lived if SkyMark has its way …
