What Happens When Rat Poison Is Unregulated

    Wikimedia: Hardyplants

Through a quirk, Washington, D.C., is exempt from the restrictions on rat poisons that prevent their sale to the general public.  Here’s what the city wants to change that…

Two unintended consequences, as quoted in the linked article:

  • “Councilmember Christina Henderson shared that one local hospital reported 12 cases of pediatric hospitalization tied to rat poisoning in the past year.”
  • “Henderson also raised concerns about impacts on wildlife. She added that a recent report from the Department of Energy and Environment found that 85% of the dead hawks, eagles and other birds autopsied in the District had signs of rodenticide poison.”.
