My latest column for The Record and Herald News is about birding at Halifax Road in Mahwah, featuring an appearance by a Pileated Woodpecker and advice from ace birder Doug Morel.

(After the column went to press on Tuesday, Judy Cinquina reported a "single
singing Cape May & Blackpoll Warblers, also a Least Flycatcher. Other
species of interest were 2 Solitary Sandpipers, many Baltimore & Orchard
Oriole males dueling for territory and a defensive Brown Thrasher."

Yesterday, Rob Fanning reported: "Kris B located a female GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER at Halifax this afternoon–also seen by Rich Klockner and myself. This is only my 4th record for the county (2nd in spring–both at Halifax)  

"Many birds vocal and easily seen mainly at or near the dirt parking lot–incl. Blackpoll, Nashville, Chestnut-sided, BT Blue, N. Waterthrush, Least Fly, both Orioles, and easily 5+ Indigo Buntings! A mini-'fallout' of sorts!"  )
