Red-letter Day at Hawk Mountain

DSCN9211
No sooner did Patty, sister-in-law Judy and I get to Hawk Mountain's South Lookout on Saturday than we saw a Golden Eagle (briefly) — followed by a nice kettle of Broadwings and other nice birds.  (Golden Eagle was a life bird.)

We blame the native plant sale for not getting to South sooner.

On Friday afternoon we saw two Bald Eagles and a few other nifty raptors. (I did not bring my 400mm lens, ensuring that we would see lots of good stuff.)

Hawk Mountain has made  a series of upgrades to the trails, including a handicapped-accessible trail to South, a new entrance, and a better seatage (I think I just invented an annoying term) and signage.

Amazing place, as always, and the nearby countryside is wonderful any time of year but especially now. (Thanks, Hawk Mountain!)
