The Big Sit: Preliminary Celery Farm Results
Had great weather for Fyke's annual Big Sit at the Celery Farm yesterday.
Birders tried to see as many species of birds as possible from the Pirie-Mayhood Tower from 6 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. (One view from the platform is above.)
According to the preliminary results, we saw a total of 48 species, with the 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. crew leading the way with 43 species. Way to go!
Other two-hour shifts had 29 species, 24 species, 15 species, 9 species and 23 species — with some recurring birds throughout the day. Thanks to all who participated.
Full list follows.

It was a glorious, if somewhat chilly, morning: mostly clear sky, bright sunlight illuminating the autumn colors on the opposite shore and a foggy mist on the lake. I highly recommend a stroll before the leaves are all down. As for the birding … when your choices for bird-of -the-day include a Northern Harrier, a Merlin,a Brown Creeper or a flock of 13 Killdeer migrating through … it’s a delightfully impossible decision.

Way to go faithful birders.
