In The Record: Scott Weidensaul Interview

In today's Record is my interview with Weidensaul_scott-001author/naturalist Scott Weidensaul. who is giving a free talk on bird migration and on his new Peterson guide to owls this Friday at the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhusrt.

Weidensaul is a terrific speaker, and his new reference book on owls is excellent.

Here's a sample:

Weidensaul says his biggest surprise in writing the lavishly illustrated book was how little research has been done on owls.

"There's surprisingly little known about many aspects of the Weidensaul_OWLS_cvr_choice-002lives of even birds like great horned owls and eastern or western screech owls, which are abundant almost everywhere," Weidensaul says.

"Why? Because it's damned hard to study owls, as I've found out myself over the years. Studying any wild bird is challenging, but when the subject is usually nocturnal and secretive, it becomes especially difficult."
