Updated: Celery Farm Rescue Drill

Search-and-rescue teams from several neighboring towns held a drill in the Celery Farm last night, flooding the Green Way cul de sac and parts of the preserve with activity.

Alexa Policastro of the Allendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps reports:

The drill began at approximately 7 p.m. All units were dispatched to the scenario of six missing hikers in the celery farm after a micro burst.

Four hikers walked out not injured but two remained lost. Search and rescue revealed two patients, one located in the Klomburg Woods area entrapped under a fallen tree, the second located under a bench at the elevated lookout near Meadow Lane.

Units from AVAC, AFD, HHKVAC, WALVAC, and Ramsey Rescue were involved in the search and rescue as well as the extrication and removal of the patients from the Celery Farm. The drill lasted until approximately 830/9pm.

It was a really great drill and everyone was very happy with the outcome. Really looking forward to making this an annual drill, HHK and Mahwah have both expressed interest in doing similar drills in their natural park areas

(Thank you, all!)
