Losen Slote Walk — Excellent as Usual
Beautiful day for a Losen Slote Creek Park guided walk yesterday.
I think the "bird of the day" might have been the dragonfly at right.
The dragonfly stopped briefly to pose for photos on folks' outer clothing.
If anyone can ID it, either correctly or humorously, please let me know.
The rare Showerhead Ferns seen near Losen Slote Creek were also a treat. Photo is "on the jump" below.
If anyone can ID it, either correctly or humorously, please let me know.
Full list and more pix follow.

Agree it’s an Autumn Meadowhawk (sympetrum vicinum) – a female or immature male. Mary’s link shows the bright red adult male. A picture of a female can be seen at

I’m not positive about the Fungus but if that’s a birch they may be Birch Polypores.

Most likely a Autumn Meadowhawk. They are the latest flying dragonfly in NJ. http://www.njodes.com/Speciesaccts/skimmers/mead-yell.asp
