What does this bottle of porter have to do with Mehrhof Pond, one of the great spots to see wintering waterfowl and raptors in North Jersey?
The eagle below was photographed by Mehrhof Pond last winter.
Fran Duggan answered correctly: "Between the late 1800s and early 1900s Little Ferry contained as many as eight brickyards.
"The clay for the brickyards came from pits in the Meadowlands. Mehrhof Pond was one of those pits.
"So, Little Ferry's Brix City porter is related to the Mehrhof Pond eagle by history and geography."
