A Bit of Bad News: Celery Farm Closed Today

Following a long-standing policy established by Marsh Warden Emeritus Stiles Thomas, the Celery Farm Natural Area will be closed on April 1 to give all newly arrived waterfowl time to plan for their upcoming stays at the sanctuary.

Sorry if you were planning a visit, but policies are policies.

More information follows.

Happy April Fools Day!

  • I am not playing…no April Fool’s for me.

  • I’ve been had! I thought the warbler was just acting sluggish due to the rain.
ps I think it’s about time that we plant another mechanical PURPLE GALLINULE at the CF. We need more pub!

  • John Workman

PS. I can’t believe it! Stile’s prank worked! His wooden carving of the Adelaide’s Warbler was just reported to the listserv as “a first” for the Celery Farm!
Now, who breaks this news to Rob F?

  • John Workman

Thanks, Jim. We’ve also ordered 3 truckloads (from Amazon) of those plastic Swamp Cabbages, and will — once again — “plant” them about the Farm. Camouflaged loud speakers (throughout the area) with loop recordings of spring peepers and Red-winged Blackbirds have been replaced.

  • Thanks, John. Stocking the CF with early migrants is a great idea.
We are also repairing the mechanical Fish Crows that have been harassing the mechanical Wood Ducks.

  • John Workman

Jim, I assume that today’s scheduled repair of the mechanical Wood Ducks in the nest boxes is still on? Some of the birders and photographers are starting to get suspicious. I also have the Fish and Wildlife People coming in today to restock the eastern and northern sides of the preserve with a few early arrival migrants. Just to keep people happy.
    Best,
