Saturday’s High Mountain Hike: What You Need to Know
Looking forward to Saturday's High Mountain hike, brought to you by the Fyke Nature Association and Bergen County Audubon Society.
The free hike, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starts at the beginning of the Red Trail, just off University Drive on the William Paterson Universty campus.
Since the Red Trail Parking Lot on University Drive has only 13 spaces, and another group will be using that lot as well, be aware there is additional parking in nearby Parking Lot Six, which will be on your left as you take University Drive from Belmont Avenue and W. Lookout Avenue (See map, above) in North Haledon. "X" marks the spot of the parking lot. If you are concerned about your bearings, check out Google Maps beforehand.
The free hike will take about 2.5 hours, including a half-hour or so at the summit, where we'll do a little cleanup in honor of Earth Day. I will bring trash bags.
I suggest you wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a snack. A walking stick may come in handy for some. Might bring a small backpack to stow your jacket, water, etc.
The trail is rocky in places and a bit steep at the very end — that's why we are calling this a hike and not a walk.
Should be a wonderful hike. E-mail me at celeryfarm@gmail.com to let me know you're coming, or if you have any questions.
My cellphone number for Saturday morning is 551-579-8782.
Note: If you can't participate in Saturday's hike, I am leading a free Nature Conservancy hike to the summit on April 30.
