Monday Mystery Answered

 DSCN9889
In advance of my High Mountain talks this month and a field trip to HM's Franklin Clove, thought I'd throw stones out there to see if anyone knows what they are. This is the first Monday Morning Mystery.

I asked, "What is it and how did it get to High Mountain?"

The answer is, "Green Pond Conglomerate," and it traveled by glacier to High Mountain way back when.  (See map below, far left.)

It is also called puddongstone — Schunemunk Puddingstone.

Congrats to Deedee Burnside, Marianne Herrmann and especially Fran Duggan, who was the first to point out:

"Puddingstone, transported by glaciers." (A big thank you to William Paterson Professor Marty Becker for his geology expertise!)
