My New Column: Bird-proofing Your Windows
My latest column for The Record is on an effective way to reduce the number of times that birds collide with the windows near your feeders. The product is called BirdSavers, and you can make them yourself or send away for them.
I'll post a link once the column is online. In the meantime, you can read it in the newspaper on Page 5 of the Better Living section.
The column features a photo of a female American Redstart, taken at Garret Mountain by Roy Woodford.

Not fan of the stick-on decals.
Went to the website at birdsavers.com (Acopian) being a DYI’er followed their “make your own” link. Next was a trip to Home Depot. Picked up a pkg of dark 1/8″ paracord. 2- 10′ vinyl J-channel and some velcro for my weekend deck doors project ! : ) -
In my childhood home there was a huge picture window and there were incidents. In this home that I live in now there has never been an incident. My mother used to be superstitious and say if a raven hit the window you would hear of a death. I wonder wherever she got that from? I think one reason we have no problems is that there is a nice row of bushes to the side of the feeders and the birds always go there if they are startled.
