Informative Article on Bird Strikes
From time to time, in my birding column for The Record, I write about the deadly problems that windows create for birds.
One of the worst sinking feelings is hearing that dull thud on your window and knowing that a bird has just flown into it.
Last month I wrote about Acopian BirdSavers, which use strands of parachute cord to deter collisions. Birds see the cords and avoid the glass behind them. The cords work well. But a birding column has limited space, and the subject is huge.
To the rescue comes the current issue of the American Birding Association Birders Guide, with an eight-page article by Heidi Trudell that contains everything you ever wanted to know about preventing window strikes — and helping birds that have flown into your windows.
