Nifty History Story about McNamara Park
When I used to work in the Meadowlands, I liked to stop by Tessie McNamara Park on Clay Avenue to see if any interesting shorebirds or waders had dropped in.
There's a little observation deck overlooking a small patch of wetalnds and water, and in the back is a smokestack — all that remains from an act of German sabotage that occurred 100 years ago tomorrow.
The Record's Chris Maag has the story, here. Photo above is by The Record's Chris Pedota.

That is amazing…so cool…never knew this. Wow. Good for Tessie. She was very brave and saved so many. Also, it is pretty amazing that they were able to obtain reparation payment after all of those years. They were tenacious to prove involvement. It always disheartens me how people deny wrongdoing. Wouldn’t it be better to clear their conscience? So they proved it anyway and the man who helped them was found and shamed into retribution. That is a remarkable story. Thanks for sharing it. I sincerely hope we have nothing like that near our shores every again.
