Today: 13th Anniversary of ‘Duck Enough’
Jerry Barrack informs me that 13 years ago this morning, he and I saw the nine baby Wood Ducks jump from their nest-box home in the Celery Farm.
We were chatting on the Warden's Watch when the action started, and we watched in wonder as the drama unfolded.
It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in nature, and I was so excited that I got out my journal and wrote down everything I had seen as soon as I got back home.
Jerry, meanwhile, had managed to photograph the entire sequence.
We talked to our friend Doug Goodell about doing a children's book of the event with us, and the result was "Duck Enough to Fly," now in its second printing.
For the record, the expression "Duck Enough to Fly" just popped out of my head somewhere along the line.
Happy anniversary to Jerry, Doug and the nine little ducklings, wherever they may be.
Time flies almost as fast as Wood Ducks.
