The Celery Farm Needs You — to Cut Phrags

DSCN3438
If you've walked around the Celery Farm lately and visited the Pirie-Mayhood Tower, you've probably noticed that an invasive reed called phragmites has grown so tall that it's tough to see Lake Appert.

On Saturday morning, July 15, we aim to change all that. Join us as we chop the Phragmites down to size.

(In case you are wondering, the folks doing an environmental survey of the Celery Farm say that now is the time:

"The middle toward the end of July that is a good time to cut the phragmites. It won’t have time to grow more multiple stems. Go for it.")

Here's what you need to do. Email me (celeryfarm(at)gmail.com) and let us know you're coming. Wear long pants long-sleeve shirt, and waterproof boots or Wellies. Bring  your own hedge clippers, hand pruners, long-handled pruners, work gloves and bug spray (we'll have some, too, just in case, and water — all you can drink. Oh, yeah!)

We'll work from 9 to 11 a.m., unless we finish sooner.  Rain date is Sunday, July 16.

Let's show those phrags who's the boss. (I took the shot below seated at the platform a few minutes. I think the phrags grew at least an inch while I was there.
