Twenty-two armed Loyalists arrested the patriot John Fell at his house in what was then Paramus on this day in 1777, during the thick of the American Revolution.  

Allendale and the Franklin Turnpike came later.

Here’s a video I did 15 years ago, before the house was saved.

The would-be developer insisted that the house was not historic.  Hilarious.
