Whither the Crowphy?
Once again, I have been flooded with calls, texts and e-mails all day, more or less, from folks asking: "Has Fyke Wrested the Crowphy from Bergen County Audubon yet?
I tell everyone, "Still waiting for BCAS' results."
As you may recall, BCAS eked out a victory in the CBC competition 2015, 84 species to 80, giving Fyke a four species handicap in 2016.
The BCAS had an amazing 89 count to Fyke's paltry 78 in 2016 and retained the Crowphy, giving Fyke an 11-species handicap this year.
After tallying 82 species on Saturday, Fyke is feeling good about our chances this year. I did not mention the competition sooner for fear of putting too much pressure on the Fyke squad, but I am sure it was in the back of everyone's mind.
I hope to take back the coveted award when I do a talk for Bergen County Audubon in January 2018. Perhaps Fykers can join me for the celebration.
I hope I did not count my Wild Turduckens before they hatch.

I really hate to part with such a lovely trophy , but I think I can manage to surrender it if I had too 🙂

hmmm. So we need to beat 93 species? This could be a tough one.
