The Big Dead-Fish Clean-Up
A huge thank you to the volunteers who pitched in yesterday to remove all those dead fish from the Celery…
I thought I'd kick off a few posts from a recent trip to New Orleans and Cajun Country with this arachnid mystery, photographed at a nature preserve in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Cool spider. Can you identify it?
Looks like a matchstick spider to me…
Brazilian wandering spiders, also called armed spiders or banana spiders, belong to the genus Phoneutria, which means “murderess” in Greek. And it’s no wonder why — it’s one of the most venomous spiders on Earth. Its bite can be deadly to humans, especially children, although antivenin makes death unlikely.
That’s a Banana spider!
