When Good Nestboxes Turn Bad

_MG_0818Notice how the roof of the box warped and separated is the photo above?

Time for a new box with a more-secure roof.

A joint along the peak of the roof, with nothing but a few cheap nails to keep it tight? Really?

Why aren't some nestboxes built better?

Same problem with my birdhouses. Currently I have rope around two of them as they were coming apart while the eggs/babies were still inside. I usually have to replace them every few years. Years past I had some that my aunt & uncle made, they had old license plates for roofs. The roofs lasted, but eventually the houses fell apart!
