Horned Grebe at the Celery Farm
My first ever here. And the spring arrivals are arriving! The grebe was No. 186 on my Celery Farm life…
On the visit to High Mountain's Franklin Clove on Friday, my wife Patty and I also came across a flock of Dark-eyed Juncos.
We wondered if there's a collective noun for juncos. The Internet offered a few answers, none definitive as far as I could tell.
Someone proposed "a junket of juncos." What do you think?
Yo Jim . . .With their white outer rectrices, and with a flock milling about, they look like square dancers with
flared skirts; and since the Latin for DEJU is Junco hyemalis, how about “Hyemalis Hoedown”?
(Too big a stretch . . .???) . . . .CC
