New Deer Exclosure Warden

Sally Teschon took this shot of the newest Celery Farm warden, in charge of keeping people from playing on or climbing on the deer exclosure..

    Thank you Jim….yes, this fellow was feasting on a mourning dove in my backyard just two weeks ago. I live a few blocks from the Hackensack River just south of Oradell’s Van Buskirk’s Island and see hawks patrolling the waterway every day (yet to see an eagle, though). Too often they find a nice spot to go hunting in my yard!! Their appearance will generally clear my feeding stations of birds for a few days after they have made their presence known. Keep up your great work…I have enjoyed your writings for years!!

  • This is a Red-tailed Hawk. Typically eats squirrels and an occasional Mournng Dove. Feeder-hunting hawks are often Cooper’s and Sharp-shinned Hawks….

    This type of hawk is a frequent visitor to my backyard usually preying on the birds in my feeder stations!! Would you please identify it. Thank you!!
