Horned Grebe at the Celery Farm
My first ever here. And the spring arrivals are arriving! The grebe was No. 186 on my Celery Farm life…
Saw this spectrum in the sky to the south of Allendalerecently, like a sliver of a rainbow.
Does this sort of thing have a name, and what causes it?
Is it in the same category as the photo below, taken on High Mountain not too long ago?

The National Weather Service explains the light refraction behind rainbows, sun dogs and the like.
(Not able to access your second photo).
Looks like a sun dog in the 1st picture. We see them often when fishing.
