2007 highlight: Celery Farm and kids
Patrick Scheuer, senior naturalist at Audubon’s Lorrimer Sanctuary in Franklin Lakes, e-mailed me to point out an aspect of the Celery Farm that many of us tend to take for granted.
It is an absolutely amazing place for kids to have fun and learn about nature.
Writes Patrick of Lorrimer’s summer camp field trip to the Celery Farm:
"We found five species of fish and many little benthic aquatic macroinvertabrates (spineless bottom dwellers) such as leeches, water boatmen, scuds, and everyone’s favorite — the rat-tailed maggot.
"The Celery Farm trip is the highlight of our camp week, and I really get a chance to show the importance of natural areas and open space to our younger generation."
In so many ways, the Celery Farm is a gift that just keeps giving.
Thanks, Patrick, for the reminder.
