Nature Done Wright
Incorporating the Celery Farm and Screech Owl Companion blogs
2 months of the screech cam
This little experiment in nature and technology is now two months old.
We have gone from a sighting of two owls just beyond my backyard to a mother owl and four chicks ranging from nine to seven days old.
That’s pretty good progress — especially considering there was no guarantee whatsoever that a female owl would lay her eggs in the box that had the screech cam — or that all four of her eggs would hatch.
In fact, there was no guarantee that the camera and wiring would hold up through snow, a nor’easter and assorted other bad weather.
So today I think I’ll just count a few blessings — four, to be exact.
And thank you all for participating in this experiment and offering suggestions on how to improve things.
The photo at the top of this posting is Mrs. Ace as she hops up to her perch in the opening.
Most of the time she still broods the nestlings, so when she hops up, it’s like the curtain going up for another night’s show.
We can finally get good views of the young once again.
Here are the Fab Four, getting older, louder and more gangly. Earlier sound problems are now solved. Sorry for the inconvenience.
