Fell House News: Part One

      The Concerned Citizens of Allendale hopes to take title of the Fell House within the next few days -- just firming up a day and time for the closing.

   The 2.8-acre property, across the Franklin Turnpike, had been slated for 11 townhouses, destroying the historic home of Founding Father John Fell in the process and exacerbating the current flooding problems at the lower end of the Celery Farm.

  Thanks to the tireless efforts of the group, this landmark will be saved. In the coming weeks, I will post updates for everyone who wants to help restore this wonderful house and property.

My Op-Ed Article about Founding Father John Fell of Allendale

   While I was in Belize, The Record published my Op-Ed article about John Fell's secret diary -- a diary he kept as a prisoner of war by the British during the Revolutionary War.

   The diary (pictured above) is just one of the many reasons why saving his Revolutionary War home (at left)  -- located across the Franklin Turnpike from the Celery Farm -- is so important.

Talk on Fell House's John Fell

  Peter Fenzel will present "Rediscovering John Fell" at the Hermitage History Roundtable at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at The Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike, in Ho-Ho-Kus.   

   John Fell, whose Revolutionary War home still stands in Allendale across Franklin Turnpike from the Celery Farm, ranked among the most respected of our Founding Fathers while he lived.

    Within a generation of his death, however, his name, his sacrifices, his character, and his contributions to the creation of the American Republic all were lost to the mists of time.

    Peter Fenzel of the Concerned Citizens of Allendale will discuss the life and times of John Fell at this History Roundtable. 

 The Concerned Citizens of Allendale, Inc., are working to save the house and property.   

Help the Fell House!

   Allendale's Fell House, that stately white mansion just down the street from the Celery Farm parking lot on Franklin turnpike, was recently named one of the state's 10 Most Threatened Historic Sites.

  To celebrate this new honor -- and help raise awareness and more money to save this treasure, the Concerned Citizens of Allendale is having a fund-raiser at the Allendale Bar and Grill on Monday [July 27] from 5 p.m. to closing.
 
   Buy dinner, a snack, a beer,a glass of wine, and part of the proceeds will go to the Concerned Citizens of Allendale, a non-profit grassroots group.
