On Wednesday night, we had our second annual Moth Ball at the historic Fell House.
Although we did not get any large show-stopping moths aside from a glimpse or two at Mothra, we did get some exquisite moths, a gigundo Cave Cricket and a beautiful Praying Mantis -- plus quite a few Big Brown Bats around dusk.
Patrick Carney, incredibly, photographed and ID'd them most of 'em -- and shared them with this blog.
This was a large amount of work and effort, and it makes IDing these little guys a little easier down the road. And it also underscores how many different creatures of the night we have flying around.
So, to Patrick, on behalf of all of us attended the Moth Ball (brought to you by Fyke and the Concerned Citizens of Alendale, who saved and maintain the Fell House), thank you!
(Note: A lot of the really cool moths arrived after a lot of folks had left -- here's what you missed, along with what you saw.)
Many more of Patrick's photos follow. They are definitely worth a look.
